In this class, I’m going to use a whole bunch of different things beyond the pens, pencils and markers that you would generally think of for lettering. I’m going to introduce you to A LOT of supplies. But with that being said, I don’t want you to feel pressure to go spend a ton of money and buy everything at once that you don’t have. Experiment with what you have already and add to your collection of supplies slowly if you are on a budget.
Also, different brands make similar products at different price points. I’ve tried to stick to my favorite economical supplies for this class - but you might stumble upon something similar you like different!
Alright, so for this class I’ll be doing everything in this Canson Mixed Media sketchpad. I love these. They have great, sturdy paper, holds lot’s of media, can hold water pretty well, and, the best part...wait for it...you can usually find them everywhere, even at Walmart. So they are cheap! But feel free to work in whatever book you have. I do recommend sturdier, thicker paper, because we are going to be using a lot of watercolors, and washes, and you need a paper that can sustain that.
My favorite surface to work on when I’m NOT in my sketchbook is Strathmore Bristol Board. It is super sturdy, very durable, and it is my friend. :)

A few of my FAVORITE supplies I’ll be using during this class are:
I’ll be using a wide variety of pencils, pens, colored pencils and markers. Grab what you have on hand!
Specifically, you’ll see me using:
Zebra
Tombow Calligraphy Pen
Microns
Generals Pastel Chalk
Bistro Chalk Marker
Prismacolor Pencils
Koi Blending Marker
I’ll be using both watercolor and acrylics in this class. Your basic pan set of watercolors will work, as well as tubes or liquid! I’ll be using economical acrylic craft paint - but any acrylics will do!
As far as brushes go, when lettering with a brush, I use round liners. This is a great starter set by Blick:

When applying large areas of color, or washes, I use larger round and square brushes. You don’t need to break the bank on brushes! Anything that will slap on some color for you will do!
